Christmas season is upon us! One way we love celebrating it is with advent. Making family traditions has been such an incredible experience as a mother. Before we had kids we knew that adding Christmas traditions were important to us. Advent didn’t come into play until our oldest was old enough to understand. Since then, it has evolved a few times.
We ALL know the Elf on the Shelf, ya? Well, we didn’t really like the whole story behind it so we made up our own. Our Elf is the plush Elf on the Shelf that you can purchase. The reason we got the plush one was we wanted the kids to be able to play with him/her and interact with it.
Each morning Ruby is hiding somewhere in the house with a special Christmas activity. Once my kids got a bit older they now rotate on who gets to snuggle with Ruby at bedtime.
CREATING BONDING AS A FAMILY
Over the years we have tried to pick activities that nurture bonding, creativity, imagination, and kindness.
Some examples we have had are:
- candlelight dinner
- ice skating
- baking Christmas treats
- writing an encouraging note
- donating to the food bank
