Times certainly have changed since I was a child. Mac and Cheese for lunch, hot dogs, grilled cheese and at holidays we were allowed to eat all the candy and sugar-filled treats that we wanted. Things seemed a lot more carefree back then, but there have been consequences to that form of lifestyle such as behavior issues in both adults and children, and a rise in obesity and allergies. We are learning that our mental and long-term health has a lot to do with what we consume.
Don’t get me wrong we still have that mac and cheese, hot dogs and grilled cheese for meals at times but we have switched out the processed cheese for real, a non-GMO version of KD and we select a better grade of hot dogs if that is even possible. The point is, we switched our thinking about what we consume, along with what our children are consuming. We limit sugar intake as much as we can and even opted to get the kids to trade all of their Halloween candy for a toy this year.
There is an endless amount of information out there. What you should be eating, what you shouldn’t. Buy this product, don’t buy this one. Where do we start? That is why events such as the Healthy Family Expo are such an amazing resource for parents and caregivers. It is also a lot of fun for the kids and a chance to snag some awesome freebies along the way.
Highlights of the 4th annual Healthy Family Expo coming up on Sunday, March 26, include:
