Sunday’s are pretty low key for our family. It’s somewhat of our Sabbath if you will. The morning brings about a busy day for my husband running the children’s ministry at church. After church, we stuff leftovers in our mouths then we all head for our Sunday Grochowski naps.
Yesterday, however, I decided to make the most of the sunshine since it has been hit and miss this past month. We were just going to hit up Campbell Valley Park but last minute I decided to go to Golden Ears in Maple Ridge. Just a quick drive over the bridge and we were there within 30 minutes.

Park hours are running on Winter time so plan to be out of the park by 5:00pm to make it past the gate by 5:30pm, otherwise, you will be locked in. The bathrooms are closed right now but they do have porta potties available. There is also a bunch of picnic tables to use if you wanted to make it a longer stay and have a meal there, which many were doing when we arrived.
Golden Ears has many trails to choose from including the Lower Falls. This trail is the easiest that the park has to offer with it being just a short 1 hour (2.7km) along Cold Creek. We have done this one a few times with all of us. There is a little creek about half way which is a great spot to stop and let the kiddos have a little break and fuel up for the last leg of the hike.
Since I’m almost 19 weeks pregnant we stuck to the beach front this time. There are plenty of rocks for the little ones to throw into the water and sticks laying about to build and let their imaginations run wild.
Golden Ears is a great place to get out of the city for a little while and enjoy the fall air and explore.
