Although I am only 14 weeks the thought of getting my core ready for birth is strongly on my mind. After I had my second child I noticed that my tummy never fully healed. There was a “mommy tummy” still showing. Regardless of the weight that I lost it never seemed to disappear. This is where women usually think that they are not doing enough core exercises to get that dang thing gone. After a lot of research I came across what is medically called, Diastasis Recti or the splitting of the abdominal muscles.
means your belly sticks out because the space between your left and
right belly muscles has widened. You might call it a “pooch.” webmd
I learned that crunches and other core exercises were actually making the issue worse by pulling my muscles apart rather than bringing them together and healing.
After knowing this I searched the internet once again for proper ways to heal my abdominal. I was making progress but not long after I became pregnant once again with my 3rd baby. Seeing how I get extremely sick all the progress that I had made I ended up losing.
Giving birth to a 10lb 7oz baby, you can imagine the damage that was done during those 9 months of carrying him. What used to be a small gap was now a pretty huge one in my abdominal. I would try off and on to close it but I always failed as it is not easy work and caring for three children I found it really hard time wise.
However, I know that this being my last baby I want my body to be in the best shape it can be for a few reasons. One, to have a smoother birth and hopefully eliminate hemorrhaging. Two, if I am exercising it will motivate me to eat better thus hopefully, lowering this babies birth weight compared to my previous two. Lastly, to help healing postpartum and my DR.
Enter, The Tummy Team. I have been following them on Instagram for almost a year now. They specialize in prenatal core care, closing DR, and postpartum care as well. When your core is strong, the rest of your body is supported.
I will be taking their 6 week prenatal core online course. Each week there will be something to focus on specifically, accompanied by a video tutorial, and print outs for the week. I will also be keeping a journal, other than updates on here, on how my body/core is feeling.
I am pumped for this! My core is extremely weak and has been for the past 4 years. With a growing baby I’m going to need that strength and not to mention when it comes time to bring this babe earth side.
Have you heard of Diastasis Recti before? I’m going to leave a video below in how you can check if you have it. It might not just be a “mummy tummy” that you may think it is.
