My Baby Girl,
Today you are six. Six. I feel like now you are on a path that is going to go by way too fast, faster than it already has. You are in no way a baby anymore, but a child that will soon be a woman. Six. It feels like an even bigger milestone than five did. Only four more years and we will be hitting double digits. Be still my heart.
You love adventure, climbing, arts and crafts and learning. My favorite memory of this past year was when we were in the Disney store and instead of a princess shirt you wanted the Avengers shirt. It made me proud. Not that buying a princess shirt is a bad thing but that you did not care or even notice a difference between them. To you, Superheros are just as cool as Princesses.
God has made you have such a kind and obedient heart. My prayer is that you will be obedient to Him as you grow and follow your own faith journey. You have started to test us a little more but it just means you are starting to think for yourself. Which is not at all a bad thing. It is good. Ask us questions, learn what God has created you for. The verse that God gave us for you was Matthew 5:16 “Let you light shine before others so that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Abigail, you have such a bright light!
My dearest Abigail, how lucky am I that God chose you as my first baby? Your father and I were so very young but the Lord gave us so much grace in having such a quiet baby. You would give everyone the stink eye that you met, never sure of strangers. Even though you don’t give people the stink eye anymore you are still shy and unsure of those you first meet. I used to care a lot about this, hoping people didn’t think you rude but it is not a bad thing that you are shy. Mommy was shy as well. That is just who you are and I do not apologize for it anymore.
I love you so very much and today on your 6th Birthday I am proud of who you are and proud to be your mama. The best thing that you have ever said to me was, “mama, I love you as much as Jesus loves you.”
Happy Birthday my baby girl.
