It is February 14th 2009, Valentines Day, the clock hits 6:45am and I am waiting patiently for Jon’s phone call with instructions for the day. The phone rings and butterflies start fluttering in my stomach. He tells me to go downstairs to the lobby where we usually hang out when he comes to visit me. I throw on a pair of sweatpants and put on my glasses and head downstairs with a smile on my face.
On the couch was a package of sour skittles with a note that read “we were both young when I first saw you.” When we were in grade 9 and on one of our dates he bought me a package of sour skittles because they were my favorite candies at the time. I still to this day have that empty package from grade 9 🙂 There was also a note that explain that through out the day I would be getting clues and I needed to be ready by 7:45am with 4 clues having to be found before then! There sat a red envelope, I opened it and inside was a puzzle piece and my first clue that said “in between the toes where all the dirt goes.” (When my sister and I were young my Dad would give us a bath and this is what he would say to us.)
So I headed upstairs to finish getting ready for the day and start on my “Love Hunt” as Jon called it. The first clue led me to my shower where I found another one (with another puzzle piece) that read, “I really enjoyed our photo shoot.” (when Jon came down for our x-mas dinner we stayed late in Club Coco and took some photos.) So I headed up to Club Coco and there was a huge singing balloon with the next clue (and puzzle piece), “I really enjoyed being President, I don’t think that I was ever scum once.” (We played a card game here one time down in the Alcove in the lodge.) Clue #4 Chino is a faithful friend. This one really stumped me. Jon was waiting in the lobby so I went and sat on his knee telling him that I really didn’t understand this one..lol All he said was “think Shannon”……….OH YA! It finally hit me, my picture frame that I have of Chino says faithful friend on it. I go up stairs and it was a note that said “Ok lets go to breakfast I am starving.”
So off we went to breakfast and I tried drilling him about all that was going to happen and how did he get the clues into my room and who helped him but he wouldn’t budge. The waitress came and handed Jon the bill and handed me the next clue!!! Ok I was super impressed by this!! How the heck did she get the clue?!?! This one read “Now lets go pamper my princess.” He dropped me off at a salon where I preceded to get a manicure and pedicure. This was an amazing time to relax and think and as well I shared my testimony with with the women who was pampering me and got to hear a little about her beliefs. When we were finished she handed me my next clue, “Ok let’s just do it, let’s take the plunge!” ahhhh OH MY GOODNESS, the first thought that came to my mind was, he is taking me bungee jumping!!! No, No, NO, NOOOOO! haha. He picked me up and off we went to Bungee Zone! I was terrified!!! ahhhh But we did it! The guy who took us down handed me another clue! Ok now I was SUPER impressed!
That clue led us to a nice sushi lunch. After lunch we had to detour from our day to go and get my immunizations for India. Nothing says I love you like a needle in the arm eh!??! lol. I was originally quoted that this was going to take about 2 hours but it only took about 2 mins…haha. We had some time to kill so we went and got some Advil because we both had a headache from the jump. Then he told me that I would have to close my eyes as he went to the next location. When we stopped I thought that he was just going to leave me there and someone was going to hand me another clue so I started to panic…haha. But he told me to open my eyes and waiting just outside the truck was a limo!!! yes that is right a limo!!! I was to ride back myself to camp in the limo. When we got to the camp everyone was starring and wondering what the heck was going on and when he stopped he handed me my next clue which told me to be ready by 5pm because my prince was going to take me to dinner. 🙂
The limo took us to this really nice restaurant overlooking the harbour. When our waiter came to take our order I could tell right away that he knew something because he gave me the biggest smile and asked me how my day had been going. The meal and just being together was amazing. When we were finished eating and yet again I got handed another clue from the waiter. I looked up before opening it and laughed because a few of the women workers were looking at me opening up the clue and smiling soo big..haha. The clue read “don’t forget to stop and smell the flowers.”
After dinner we headed back to the camp where I had a few more clues to find. The last one that I found told me to collect all the pieces and meet Jon in the lobby with a warm coat. When he came and met me he wanted to make sure that we had all the pieces to the puzzle so we counted and he noticed that we didn’t have them all. I could tell right away that he was trying not to get angry or too stressed out as much as he could. We retraced our steps and he noticed that I skipped a clue, so I ran back upstairs and grabed the clue that I was missing.
We started to head to the top of the stairs that led to the dock and I could see the candles from the top of the steps. It was the most romantic thing that I have even seen!!! We get to the dock and there is a blanket with candles all around it and two blankets for the both of us to stay warm and a little heart pillow to sit on while I put the puzzle together. It took me a little while to piece it together because it was so dark but I got it together, however there was still one more piece missing. Jon asked me what did the puzzle talk about and I replied, “marriage” and then he handed me the last piece that said, “Shannon will you marry me?” and he pulled out the ring and asked me!!! Apparently later I found out that I paused and his heart stopped because he thought that I was going to say no, but I don’t even remember pausing at all! lol. And of course you all know that I said “YES!!!”
He told me that he had gone up to Kamloops to talk with my mom to ask her permission in my hand in marriage so she already knew and said yes and was happy for the both of us. We also had a chance just to soak it all in and look out to the beautiful view that God blessed us with that night and pray together.
So there go you everyone that is the story of our engagement! 😀
